Four brilliant talents from the Juilliard School are the winners of the Fendi Vanguard Awards, annual scholarships for students selected from the disciplines of music, dance and theater taught at American colleges.

 If fashion is constantly moving forward, then it makes sense to go where the future is created. That's why <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/fendi-vypustili-kapsulnuyu-lyzhnuyu-kollekciyu-season-osen-winter-2022-23" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fendi</a> has once again partnered with the Juilliard School (alumni include Jessica Chastain, Oscar Isaac, Ren&eacute;e Fleming and Yo-Yo Ma) for its Fendi Vanguard Awards , annual scholarships for four select students among the disciplines of music, dance and theater taught in the college. They are a group of emerging artists full of talent and personality, even if they navigate among the usual anxieties of those in their last year facing the uncertainty of what will come next. <span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: 0px;">Raven Joseph (BA in Fine Arts 2023) has been dancing since childhood. "My mother had me dancing since I was three years old, because she didn't want me to break all the furniture in her house." The drive for continuous movement has come in handy, since she excels in classical dance and in the different contemporary styles of Merce Cunningham, Martha Graham, Paul Taylor. Unlike many students who come to the celebrated school from all over the world, his high school, La Guardia, <span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: 0px;">was just around the corner. A Queens native, the dancer is a New Yorker to the core, one who orders a BEC (Bacon, Egg and Cheese) at corner booths and sits in Central Park, while perfecting her craft at the barre. What do you love most about the city? "The community!" , he says without hesitation.

<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: 0px;">Mary Beth Nelson (MA, 2023 voice), is a mezzo-soprano who came to the school for her master&#39;s degree after singing professionally for a few seasons around the country. For Nelson, wearing Fendi during her performances and recitals brought her closer to her craft. «It conveys information about the character I&#39;m playing; you can feel the color on your body», she says referring to the Spring/Summer 2022 dress inspired by the illustrations by Antonio Lopez. “You are pushed to communicate differently. The dress helps me to elevate my craft, to perform at the highest level» , she adds.

<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: 0px;">This autumn he will be the protagonist at the Juilliard in Handel&#39;s opera, “Atalanta”, alongside Peter Lim (Master in Music 2023, ancient performance), another winner of the Vanguard <span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: 0px;">who studies harpsichord, historical oboe and recorder. <span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: 0px;">Lim is drawn to early music for its insistence on detail and the subtleties of technique you need to master to give a good interpretation: the harpsichord has no control pedal, so every note, right or wrong, is audible. If the world of early music veers towards an older, more staid vibe, Seoul-raised Lim is determined to bring a fresher sensibility to the genre, especially when it comes to performance. &quot;I try to coordinate my colors as much as possible with those of the harpsichord,&quot; she says of her stage costumes. Her original interest in fashion stems from spending time at her aunt&#39;s hair salon in Seoul. “I&#39;ve always tried to dress well or explore new styles. I have never focused on just one mood». Since harpsichords come in different colors, she has a rainbow of clothes in her wardrobe to match the instrument for her recitals. «Not many people in the early music world dress colorfully, perhaps because they are a little too tied to the conventional idea of the black tuxedo or suit. My plan is to break the pattern.&quot;

It&#39;s an outlet for creativity ,” she says. Growing up in Sydney, Australia, Everett studied ballet as a child, then developed a passion for theater in her teens. One of the things she loves most about the creative environment at Juilliard is that students aren&#39;t afraid to take pride in their accomplishments and talents. «In Australia» , he explains, «there is this idea that, if you think of a field of poppies, they must all be the same height. But if a poppy starts to grow a little taller, then they cut it down.&#39; It&#39;s tall poppy syndrome, and Everett is happy to find himself in a place where people&#39;s talents are celebrated, rather than hidden away. &quot;Coming to New York was incredible because you&#39;re surrounded by people who celebrate those who excel at doing something,&quot; he says.

<span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: 0px;">Her favorite role during her Juilliard years was Arkadina, the matriarch of Chekhov's classic, "The Seagull." <span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: 0px;">One of the advantages of the scholarship is that a communion is created between these young artists who all concentrate on different disciplines, otherwise impossible given the commitments of the lessons and rehearsals. For example, the group (except Everett, who had a late rehearsal) attended the Fendi Resort 2023 show celebrating the 25th anniversary of the <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/fendi-25th-anniversary-baguette-bag-capsule-collection-pop-up-shop" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fendi Baguette</a> with collaborations with Marc Jacobs and Tiffany &amp; Co. , culminating with the surprise exit of Linda Evangelista at the end of the show in a long Tiffany blue cape. Seeing the show from above &ndash; with <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/baguette-bag-the-story-behind-the-world-of-fashion-it-bag" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sarah Jessica Parker</a> and <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/dolce-gabbana-womens-fashion-show-spring-summer-2023-kim-kardashian-photos-videos-images" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kim Kardashian</a> among the guests in the front row &ndash; introduced them to the night's inherent theatrics. "It kind of reminded me of the Ascot opener in 'My Fair Lady', it was so chic," says Nelson. And Joseph made the walk of the models on the platform his own, coherently with the habit of resonating with gestures or moments of daily life to apply them in a subconscious way to dance.
