Breaking through is never easy, but hard work has worked its magic for Ibiza&rsquo;s Cici

Be careful what you wish for. That&rsquo;s the reality of Cici&rsquo;s high-flying touring schedule this summer. The phrase &ldquo;be careful what you wish for&rdquo; means situations don&rsquo;t always turn out like you expect but as long as DJs don&rsquo;t miss their connections, it&rsquo;s arguably the best job in the world. But &lsquo;be careful&rsquo;: does that resonate? &ldquo;100%! I think that really resonates. You always have an idea of what something will be like but you always look at the glam side. That&rsquo;s not the hard bit. The hard bit is the sleep deprivation! My dream was always to be a world class DJ and it still is but at the same time, I don&rsquo;t think I took into consideration the effect that the late nights would have on me mentally and physically. I wouldn&rsquo;t change it for the world but I have had my eyes opened this summer! I got a taste of what the lifestyle is like.&rdquo; August for Cici is particularly hectic: shows across Europe and into London for Field Day (on the same stage as Kraftwerk no less), a blisteringly hot Boiler Room at Glitch Festival in Malta and oodles of key events in Ibiza, where she resides and unwinds when she&rsquo;s not on the road. Just don&rsquo;t ask her where she&rsquo;s going to be in two weeks time because she&rsquo;s always firmly focused on the task in front of her.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ibiza was the place where Cici really learned where to walk the walk and talk the talk. It&rsquo;s a consistent hotbed of house music, techno gossip and Tuesday morning after-hour endeavours where friendships and made and alliances are forged. She first made her mark at a historic techno party at <a href="http://www.kehakuma.com/">Space called Kehakuma</a>, where she rubbed shoulders with Josh Wink and Luciano and from there she became a resident for <a href="https://pikesibiza.com/cosmic-pineapple/">Cosmic Pineapple at Pikes</a>. But in truth, her career switched up a gear with the release of &lsquo;Extraneous&rsquo; from her debut EP on Warehouse Music and from there she became a consistently-booked DJ/producer at <a href="https://circolocoibiza.com/">DC10 for Circo Loco</a>, arguably the last proper mainstay of the underground, still twisting and turning after twenty years at the top. Here, she plays red-hot house, raw breakbeat and psychedelic techno alongside the likes of TSHA, DJ Tennis and original DC resident Tania Vulcano, who she shared a moment with in the legendary booth at the start of the season. It&rsquo;s this desire to honour those past legends that makes her ascent so sweet. &ldquo;The era of the DJ we are in now is very different to twenty years ago,&rdquo; she muses. &ldquo;So I really feel that artists like Cassy and Tania are some of the females that paved the way for others in electronic music. Their input artistically wasn&rsquo;t about social media, it was about the passion for the music. People should be honouring these artists who were doing the grind first!&rdquo;
&nbsp;2022 saw Cici&rsquo;s profile rise thanks to more music via Man Power&rsquo;s Me Me Me imprint plus live streams with both Mixmag in London and also that brilliant new Boiler Room in Malta, where her energy matches that of the audience in front of her. And that&rsquo;s the other key to her success. At heart, she&rsquo;s a raver and the audience feels the same excitement she does. She&rsquo;s also a digger, with an ear to the sounds and productions of both summer 2022 and the seasons gone by, which is why you&rsquo;ll hear a vocal classic like &lsquo;Deeper Love&rsquo; by Aretha Franklin alongside newer productions from techno peers and acid house pioneers alike. In 2022 alone, she&rsquo;s played alongside DJ Tennis, Tania and come Creamfields 2022, she&rsquo;ll have played with Nina Kraviz again after first gracing the fabric booth with both Nina and VTSS back in 2020. And she supported the OG Sven <a href="https://ra.co/events/1526935">V&auml;th</a> at Koko in London. &ldquo;I just think that they&rsquo;re masters of their craft,&rdquo; she reasons sweetly. &ldquo;And it&rsquo;s an honour and a privilege to be supporting DJs like Sven and Nina. I also discovered these DJs in Ibiza. There is a strong connection to them there. That was my discovery, it stemmed from the time I went to Cocoon or I went to <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/music/antonio-carbonaro-interview-circoloco">Circo Loco</a>. Ibiza is a self-contained island and yet for the size of the island it has the most intense number of DJs there! More than anywhere else in the world! It opened my eyes to a world of possibilities. It was fun and it was inspiring.&rdquo;&nbsp;&nbsp;
And what&rsquo;s next? A remix for Basement Jaxx, another solo EP and that all-important first trip to the USA and to Asia are all on the horizon. Just don&rsquo;t ask her to do too many things at once, because first and foremost, she&rsquo;s going to focus on delivering the best DJ set you&rsquo;ll have witnessed that week/month/year. Depending on how often you leave the house, of course.&nbsp;
