Harris Reed reflects on identity, creativity and why fashion’s future depends on building worlds, not just clothes.

<a href="https://www.instagram.com/harris_reed/?hl=en">Harris Reed</a> has long occupied a singular space within contemporary fashion, one where theatrical glamour, fluid identities and unapologetic self-expression coexist. Known for sculptural silhouettes and a maximalist approach that has redefined red-carpet dressing for a new generation, Reed has built a creative universe shaped as much by emotion and character as by craftsmanship. It is perhaps unsurprising, then, that Ibiza, with its spirit of freedom, individuality and escapism, remains a place that continues to recharge both his perspective and imagination.

L’OFFICIEL IBIZA: What does Ibiza represent for you, personally and creatively?
HARRIS REED: It’s the ultimate escape. It’s somewhere to reset your creativity, reconnect with your core and open your eyes again. More than anything, it’s about reconnecting with yourself and with the people you love. Being on an island means absolute, unapologetic freedom.
LOIB: Do you remember your first time in Ibiza?
HR: What stayed with me was the way people carried themselves. There’s a certain ease in how they communicate, in how they exist. It’s an intoxicatingly inspiring place. Ibiza breeds unique characters, and for me, character is always where a collection begins.
LOIB: What does your perfect summer day on the island look like, from morning to night?
HR: I always stay at The Standard Ibiza. For me, it strikes the perfect balance between dancing until sunrise while still finding moments of calm on the rooftop. It’s the ultimate space. My day in Ibiza usually starts slowly. Wake up, walk along the beach, then head into the mountains. I love nature walks, and Ibiza offers this beautiful duality between wilderness and nightlife. Dinner would be at La Paloma, then I’d probably change and dance all night at Pacha.
LOIB: Which projects are exciting you most right now?
HR: I’m constantly excited by the evolution of the brand. We’ve just launched Fluid Bridal, which has consumed so much of our time in the best possible way. Seeing people respond so emotionally to a fluid interpretation of bridalwear has been incredibly inspiring. And there are plenty of exciting VIP projects on the horizon.
LOIB: Who do you design for?
HR: I design for the ultimate trailblazer. Someone who isn’t afraid to sit with discomfort, who wants to discover deeper layers of themselves. Someone unafraid to peacock, to take up space, to be authentically who they are. I design for characters interested in deep self-expression, performed on a stage of maximalism.
LOIB: Your work has played an important role in advancing conversations around gender fluidity in mainstream fashion. How much progress do you think has truly been made?
HR: We’ve made huge progress, but there have also been setbacks. Ultimately, it comes down to consumers and social media holding people accountable and making sure fashion reflects different sizes, identities, sexualities and cultures. We have to keep speaking up for what’s right.
LOIB: Where do you think both the industry and society still need to improve?
HR: I think we often fail to truly support the brands we claim to love. Admiration is easy, but meaningful support means investing in the work and backing the message. I think a lot of people just think that saying they love something or borrowing a garment is pushing a brand forward, but actually being a customer is how that brands survive and grow.
LOIB: Do younger generations experience fashion identity with greater freedom than previous ones?
HR: There are different pressures now because of AI and technology. At the same time, people are craving tactility again. Technology can’t replace making something with your hands. Right now, creating physically feels more important than ever.
LOIB: If you had a magic wand, what would you change?
HR: I would change the fashion system entirely. We need more time between shows. We don’t need to produce so much. Fashion should allow space for creation to happen when it feels purposeful and right.
LOIB: What ambitions matter most to you right now?
HR: I have so many dreams for Harris Reed Place. I want to create a concept store that brings together demi-couture, Fluid Bridal, art, jewellery, vintage jewellery and vintage fashion in one immersive space. As the world becomes increasingly digital, experiences are one thing technology can’t replicate. I also care about building a queer, diverse and distinctive landscape within fashion. And to find more sustainable ways of working. It’s inspiring to see how people are all using dead stock in unique ways, not just like a hemp T shirt, which we of course love, but looking at dead stock embroideries and upcycling, vintage silk scarves. It's so important to grow the fashion community in a sustainable way.
LOIB: If your work were remembered in one sentence fifty years from now, what would you want people to say?
HR: That I was bold. And purposeful.
LOIB: What still scares you creatively?
HR: Handbags and shoes are something I’m exploring very closely. It’s not fear exactly, more a new territory I’m attracted to. Creating accessories that truly represent the Harris Reed universe would be incredibly exciting.
