In the 1800s it was prepared and served at the table in a punch bowl, while today it is easy to make it directly in the glass, first by " beating " it with butter, sugar, egg yolk, whipped egg whites and a little of lemon juice. At this point, add the rum, cognac and batter to a hot ceramic cup and complete the recipe with hot milk. A little nutmeg and cloves are enough to garnish.

Among the inevitable cocktails of the Christmas period for the Anglo-Saxon countries is the Eggnog , whose name already provides some clues about the ingredients that make it up and recalls an ancient beer, which in the past was part of the recipe, now in disuse. This drink is prepared in both cold and hot versions, using eggs, milk and nutmeg, combined with different types of distillates. The most popular are rum and whiskey even if the international recipe prefers brandy. Eggnog is served in a &quot; toddy glass &quot;, a typical glass for hot cocktails equipped with a handle to avoid burns while drinking. The easiest recipe to make at home involves beating an egg with three tablespoons of sugar to obtain a creamy mixture, add it to the milk and your favorite distillate, and then heat it quickly in the microwave or, alternatively, in a saucepan (paying attention not to let it boil).

Instead of the usual coffee, for the holidays it is allowed to enjoy a warm and enveloping Irish Coffee . Based on Irish Whiskey , a distillate obtained with a triple distillation of malted and unmalted barley, this drink combines the hints of roasting sugar and fresh whipped cream. Preparing it is very simple, but the final result will depend on the quality of the spirit and coffee you decide to use. First you need to pour 50 ml of whiskey into a glass (the ideal is a tall glass mug with a handle), then add 120 ml of freshly brewed hot coffee and a teaspoon of sugar (or 20 ml of its syrup ). To complete, on the top there will be a thin layer of whipped cream and, for those who wish, even a sprinkling of nutmeg that will make the Irish Coffee irresistible.
