The philanthropy institutes of billionaire Jeff Bezos and actor Leonardo DiCaprio will lead the process, which will mobilize eleven philanthropic entities to raise funds.

The Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva, established an agreement with some of the main American philanthropic entities with the aim of implementing an emergency operation to recover areas degraded by illegal mining in the Amazon and decontaminate the regions.

The next step will be to raise funds to implement the emergency action in just 40 days.  Unlike what happened during the government of Jair Bolsonaro, when the former president started controversies involving DiCaprio, in the face of the American's criticism of deforestation in the Amazon, the current government intends to approach the philanthropy fund managed by the actor.
 So far, the values of this action have not been disclosed. It is estimated that it corresponds to a sufficient amount to expand the Brazilian operation in the recovery of areas degraded by mining. At the meetings in Washington, Marina Silva defended the need to recover areas, decontaminate rivers and even people, since just expelling miners and prohibiting them from returning to the region would not be enough. "In some areas, four out of every ten children are contaminated by mercury", argued the minister.
 The funds collected may be used for projects that intend to connect the different regions of the Amazon with internet networks.
 The minister also highlighted the &ldquo;great importance&rdquo; of the US decision to join the Amazon Fund. According to her, American support for the initiative is more relevant than the US$ 50 million allocated by the White House to the fund.
 This amount was considered modest by the Planalto Palace. For this reason, the Brazilian government denied the American's suggestion to quote the value in the final statement of the meeting between Lula and Biden. For Brazil, it would be embarrassing to celebrate such a small contribution.
 However, in Marina Silva's assessment, the American endorsement stimulates the entry of private funds pre-disposed to collaborate. "Biden's decision will serve as a seal of approval for donors," he declared. "There will be a catalytic effect, a kind of gravitational force that will attract other donors", he reinforced.
 The minister also recalled that in 2003, on Lula's first visit to the White House as president, environmental guidelines were "taboos". "Today, they are at the center of the debate," he added.
