Rossy de Palma and Filip Custic co-created a live artistic performance in their first project together. A unique moment of joy, life, connection for the exclusive collector&rsquo;s cover of L'OFFICIEL IBIZA

&laquo;My creative process is about disappearing, not appearing. When I become a character, I don&rsquo;t study, I don&rsquo;t plan. I follow a plastic, malleable path and I&rsquo;m always the first to be surprised by what emerges. I love mistakes, accidents. We can&rsquo;t control everything. We&rsquo;re human, we get things wrong and that opens up new routes we&rsquo;d never have taken.&raquo;
ROSSY DE PALMA&nbsp;

No man is an island, but every island gives its children a destiny. Born off the coast of a continent, they grow up attuned to absence and distance, compelled by an instinct for exploration and connection. Insularity becomes a quest for essential, desired, inevitable relationships. This could be one of the points of contact between <a href="https://www.instagram.com/rossydpalma/?hl=de">Rossy de Palma</a>, the multifaceted actress, musician and muse of <a href="https://www.instagram.com/insta_almodovar/?hl=de">Pedro Almod&oacute;var</a>, whose stage name hints at her Majorcan roots, and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/filipcustic/?locale=de-DE&amp;hl=ar">Filip Ćustić</a>, one of the most intriguing young artists on the Spanish scene. A visionary &ldquo;digital craftsman&rdquo;, as one of his exhibition catalogues describes him, Filip has always moved between islands, whether geographic &ndash; like his native Tenerife or the Croatian island of Krk, where his family comes from &ndash; or conceptual, navigating atolls of knowledge in vast oceans of data.
Despite their many affinities, it was <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com">L&rsquo;OFFICIEL IBIZA</a> that brought the two of them together. Though they had crossed paths before and often spoken of collaborating, this project finally gave their vision a shared shape. Rossy and Filip were invited to co-create an exclusive collector&rsquo;s cover for the 2025 edition, capturing the energy of a live artistic performance.
When we arrive at Ćustić&rsquo;s small Madrid studio, the performance has already evolved far beyond its original brief. What was once a concept has become a living, creative flow. Shaped by instinct and fuelled by mutual intuition, it finds form in a series of images that remain luminous, even within the flatness of the printed page.
Wearing only a white petticoat, Rossy stands calmly before the camera. A group of young assistants circulate with candles, incense and various props. Hundreds of frames record the subtlest shifts in her expression and posture as Ćustić&rsquo;s lens &ndash; with its pixelated illusions, anatomical layering and irreverent cubism &ndash; begins to transform her into a luminous, shape-shifting deity. A sort of Kali of positive energy. The room is hot, but Rossy barely notices, gently brushing away a few drops of wax from her skin. It&rsquo;s hard to say when their collaboration truly began. They share the quiet understanding of artists who have long recognised one another, even before creating together.

L&rsquo;OFFICIEL IBIZA:&nbsp;When did this partnership begin?
ROSSY DE PALMA:&nbsp;I&rsquo;ve known Filip since he was very young. I think we first met while working on Rosal&iacute;a&rsquo;s album&nbsp;"El mal querer".

LOIB:&nbsp;Track six features a short, emotional monologue from you.
RDP:&nbsp;One day, Rosal&iacute;a asked me to tell her what I had done for love. I sent her a voice note saying I had gone to hell for love, but had no regrets, because I came out with two angels &ndash; my children. I opened up one of those abysses where you sink, until one day you ask yourself, &ldquo;What am I doing here?&rdquo; Rosal&iacute;a simply played guitar beneath my voice. That became "Preso" &ndash; a brushstroke, really, almost a prelude to the next track. Filip created a surreal video around it, where Rosal&iacute;a holds a bunch of oranges that slowly slip from her arms. That was how I began to understand his visual world and admire his talent. I promised him even then that we&rsquo;d find a way to work together.
FILIP CUSTIC:&nbsp;I was ready, waiting.

LOIB:&nbsp;How long ago was that?
RDP:&nbsp;For artists like us, time and space don&rsquo;t matter. I mean for those who have no vanity and who travel down paths no one else has taken. I respect actors, but I see myself more as an artist. My creative process is about disappearing, not appearing. When I become a character, I don&rsquo;t study, I don&rsquo;t plan. I follow a plastic, malleable path and I&rsquo;m always the first to be surprised by what emerges. I love mistakes, accidents. We can&rsquo;t control everything. We&rsquo;re human, we get things wrong and that opens up new routes we&rsquo;d never have taken. We call it chance, but really, it&rsquo;s all part of a bigger plan. In that sense, I&rsquo;m very Jungian.

FC:&nbsp;And art is the manifestation of that plan.
LOIB:&nbsp;&ldquo;Manifestation&rdquo; feels like the heart of this project.
RDP:&nbsp;When artists think they&rsquo;ve achieved something and stop, it&rsquo;s such a waste. They lose their curiosity. They stop playing, they stop learning. It&rsquo;s like the plug and the wire thinking they are electricity. But if you&rsquo;re full of yourself, you transmit nothing. Art won&rsquo;t come through you.

FC:&nbsp;That&rsquo;s how it is when you&rsquo;re self-taught &ndash; like you, like me. It has its advantages and disadvantages. We&rsquo;re deeply intuitive, but not conventional. Academic training often becomes too technical. We stay open channels. It&rsquo;s like we&rsquo;re all under the same creative cloud. If I don&rsquo;t shape an idea I&rsquo;ve received, I know someone else eventually will. It&rsquo;s freeing, not having to feed the ego.

RDP:&nbsp;That&rsquo;s what I mean when I say my job is to disappear. There&rsquo;s something beautiful about dissolving into a character. It&rsquo;s like they possess you. When there&rsquo;s no ego, then you truly exist.
FC:&nbsp;I feel that when I put on the helmet - the kind of mask I use in my performances. I stop being myself. I become my alter ego. I dehumanise myself so that intrusive thoughts can&rsquo;t enter. The helmet also represents the social mask we all wear. Exploring the human body in that way helps me see things existentially &ndash; to ask who we are and what we&rsquo;re doing here.

RDP:&nbsp;What I love about Filip is that he combines modernity, technology, with very human reflection.
FC:&nbsp;The only thing the present has that makes it different from the past is technology. Without it, we&rsquo;re just repeating what&rsquo;s already been done. I realised that the only way to represent our time authentically is through a screen, or a flow of data. I use those to access people&rsquo;s inner worlds. Like with Rossy. She&rsquo;s an icon - she holds so much of Spanish cultural memory. But here, I wanted to show her spiritual side. To portray her as a goddess, surrounded by objects that represent all the people who have come through her. Rossy as a luminous celebration.

FC: Being able to portray Rossy gives meaning to my work. I&rsquo;m fascinated by the idea that two creatives can find one another and share space and time. If I had been born twenty years later, I never would have met her.
RDP:&nbsp;We desired each other artistically, intensely. And today, we&rsquo;ve made that desire real. Like two islands making love.

LOIB:&nbsp;As islanders, you share that rootless, stateless quality.
RDP:&nbsp;I used to hate my island. I always wanted something bigger. Mallorca, with its mountains and northern winds, felt closed off. Ibiza never did. It&rsquo;s the most open of the Balearics. The people there have seen everything. I worked long nights in Ibiza, in all the big clubs. We sang, danced in the streets, played bowling. And in the mornings, we came back almost floating.
FC:&nbsp;I escape to Ibiza whenever I can. I used to associate it with parties and clubs. Then one day, staying in the mountains with a friend, I realised that all these parallel souls coexist there &ndash; the hippie, the socialite, the wild.

LOIB:&nbsp;Just like the kind of party you&rsquo;re celebrating.
