A new “Carrie” by Mike Flanagan, the return of “Friday the 13th” in the form of a prequel and five cult films to rewatch: the Halloween 2026 series and films and where to watch them in streaming.

This year, Halloween falls on a Saturday, and streaming services set the stage a few weeks early. On October 7, Prime Video released all eight episodes of “Carrie,” the series directed by Mike Flanagan that brings Stephen King ’s debut novel to television for the first time, following Brian De Palma’s 1976 film starring Sissy Spacek, moving the camera from 1980s locker rooms to smartphones. Between September and October, Netflix released “Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story,” “East of Eden” starring Florence Pugh , and “Below” starring Josh Hartnett , while HBO Max has scheduled the release of “Crystal Lake,” the 1970s TV prequel to “Friday the 13th,” for October 15.

“Carrie” on Prime Video from October 7
For the first time, Stephen King's debut novel (he is among the executive producers) is being adapted into a series, following the 1976 film adaptations by Brian De Palma starring Sissy Spacek. Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White, Samantha Sloyan as her mother, Margaret, and Matthew Lillard, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, and Rahul Kohli. Bullying moves beyond the locker room and onto smartphones, and it's on this ground that the series seeks to distance itself from previous versions.

“Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story” on Netflix from September 17
The fourth season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's anthology series. Ella Beatty plays Lizzie Borden , a suspect in the double axe murder of her father Andrew and stepmother Abby, found dead on August 4, 1892, in their home in Fall River, Massachusetts. Charlie Hunnam , who played Ed Gein in the previous season, returns as Andrew; Rebecca Hall is Abby; Vicky Krieps plays Bridget Sullivan.

“East of Eden” on Netflix from October 1st
The series is written by Zoe Kazan , granddaughter of Elia Kazan, who in 1955 directed James Dean in the film based on Steinbeck 's novel, published in 1952. The focus shifts to Cathy Ames , the anti-heroine played by Florence Pugh , alongside Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist , Ciarán Hinds, Tracy Letts, and Martha Plimpton. There's no horror in the strict sense here: it's a saga of sibling rivalry and inherited wounds, suitable for those seeking unease outside the genre's codes at Halloween.

“Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen,” on Netflix March 26
Released in spring, the eight-episode miniseries is a perfect fit for fall. A week before her wedding, Rachel ( Camila Morrone ) meets her future in-laws, who live in a remote woodland setting, and every sign seems to confirm her hunch. Created by Haley Z. Boston and produced by Matt and Ross Duffer, the series is directed by Weronika Tofilska, who previously directed “Baby Reindeer.” The cast includes Adam DiMarco , Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Ted Levine.

“Below,” on Netflix from October 8th
Josh Hartnett plays Calvin Penney, a fisherman in an isolated Newfoundland village where a sea creature begins to terrorize the community. Calvin has encountered it years before, and the hunt becomes a personal issue. The miniseries , created by Jesse McKeown, also stars Mackenzie Davis , Charlie Heaton, and Rohan Campbell.

“Crystal Lake” on HBO Max from October 15
A television prequel to the 1980 film "Friday the 13th," developed by Brad Caleb Kane and set in the 1970s, it takes the viewer back to the summer camp where it all began. Linda Cardellini plays Pamela Voorhees, a cafeteria worker at Camp Crystal Lake with her son Jason. When Jason drowns, Pamela can't accept her loss and becomes convinced he's still in the woods.

The cult films of the last five years to recover

“Midnight Mass” (2021), on Netflix
On Crockett Island, a fishing community, the arrival of a mysterious priest coincides with events the inhabitants mistake for miracles and with omens that seem to suggest otherwise. In the seven episodes of this series written and directed by Mike Flanagan, Hamish Linklater plays Father Paul and Zach Gilford plays Riley. The pace is deliberately slow, and Stephen King himself was among the series' fans.

“The Fall of the House of Usher” (2023), on Netflix
Inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher" and brought to the present, the series follows a pharmaceutical dynasty, a family dying out one death at a time. Bruce Greenwood, Carla Gugino, Mark Hamill, Mary McDonnell, Kate Siegel, and Rahul Kohli lead a cast of director loyalists.

“The Substance” (2024), on Prime Video with iWonder Full
Coralie Fargeat won the screenplay award at Cannes , Demi Moore the Golden Globe for Best Actress, and the film entered the 2025 Oscars with five nominations, including Best Picture, Director, Actress, and Makeup. A television star cast aside by her producer, played by Dennis Quaid, tries a drug that creates a younger version of herself, Margaret Qualley , and the price of that promise is paid physically.

“Weapons” (2025), on HBO Max
Zach Cregger , director of "Barbarian," tells the story of the disappearance, on the same night, of seventeen children from the same class in an American town. Julia Garner , Josh Brolin , Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan, as Aunt Gladys, make up a cast in which each character sees a different side of the story.

“Sinners” (2025), on NOW and Apple TV
Ryan Coogler sets a vampire film in 1932 Mississippi that is built on the music and history of that South. Michael B. Jordan plays twins Smoke and Stack, Hailee Steinfeld also stars, and at the 2026 Oscars the film set a record with 16 nominations, the highest number in the history of the award, winning four statuettes : Best Actor for Jordan, Best Original Screenplay for Coogler, Best Original Score for Ludwig Göransson, and Best Cinematography for Autumn Durald Arkapaw, the first woman to win in this category.
