I have friends from the far corners of the globe who I only see once a year at 3am in Ibiza. It&rsquo;s usually in some fabulous star-lit dance area at a party atop a hill, a pine forest, or a fortressed villa. No one planned to be there; half don&rsquo;t even know where they are; even fewer know the host. But we all received the same energetic invitation, otherwise known in Ibiza, as flow. Last summer I was at such a party at a futuristic lair balanced atop a mountain peak overlooking Es Vedra. It felt like a architectural version of the castle in Frozen with a surreal forest mohawked on a skinny ridge above the clouds with a lit pathway that led to a scalloped dance terrace. I scanned the crowd and recognized some familiar faces and some beautiful new ones. All seemed to be adorned in the most magnificent, idiosyncratic outfits, silky kimonos draped over antique lace, cosmic sparkled bathing suits worn as abridged evening gowns, evening gowns reduced to a few strands of fabric as transparent as the mist. The only part of the anatomy concealed were the arms; sunkissed and stacked with glimmering silver, citrine, and obsidian. The evening felt particularly surreal because 48 hours earlier I had landed in Ibiza from my high-octane life in New York City. I was in a foul mood, just like I always am for the last decade when I first arrive on the island. In my daily city routine, I&rsquo;m used to things happening fast and on schedule.

It&rsquo;s in this moment of resignation, calm, and self-knowing that my energy shifts. Suddenly, without trying, I find myself synced up to the Ibiza frequency and everything begins to&hellip;flow.

But on Ibiza the more I try to impose control the worse the situation gets.&nbsp;It&rsquo;s impossible to make succinct plans. When I text friends, if they even respond, it&rsquo;s hours later with something spacey like, &ldquo;I&rsquo;m in flow right now&hellip;&rdquo; I arrive at the beach too early when the sun is highest and I overheat. I&rsquo;m glued to my phone, fuming over the fact that everyone seems to be having fun somewhere without me, which of course, they are. And then when I&rsquo;ve hit emotional rock bottom, it happens. I simply give up. I tell myself, &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t care anymore. I&rsquo;m not going to chase the action. I&rsquo;m just going to follow my heart.&rdquo; I take a swim in the healing, amniotic sea at<a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/20-questions-with-an-ibiza-insider-rebekka-eliza"> Xarraca.</a> At Primal Moves I careen across the floor like a wild chimpanzee. I slurp down an icy cappuccino at Wild Beets. At <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/things-to-do-in-ibiza-the-best-markets-in-ibiza-atlantis-san-juan-punta-galera">Punta Galera </a>I find an angular slab of rock and meditate with the neon sherbet sunset. It&rsquo;s in this moment of resignation, calm, and self-knowing that my energy shifts. Suddenly, without trying, I find myself synced up to the Ibiza frequency and everything begins to&hellip;flow. It&rsquo;s as though I&rsquo;ve found the portal to an elusive alternate reality&mdash;the same one that has drawn people to this powerful Island since the dawn of time. That&rsquo;s what brings me back every summer&mdash;and now in the fall, too. And I&rsquo;m thinking the spring might also be nice.

Like a muse, Ibiza inspired me to dream up&nbsp;<a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/in-conversation-with-julia-chaplin-the-original-gypsetter">&ldquo;Gypset&rdquo;</a> (gypsy + jet set), a three book series and fashion line that was a prescription for a lifestyle of travel, creativity, and freedom.&nbsp;

The <a href="https://www.instagram.com/gypset_official?igsh=MTh0OXVoZjNkb3o4Yg%3D%3D">Gypset</a> philosophy followed a long tradition of artists and thinkers who crafted experimental lives outside the confines of society including the 19th century Romantic Poets like Lord Byron, the Surrealists in Mexico, the beats in Tangier, and the hippies, with their backpacks and long hair, who wandered everywhere their parents didn&rsquo;t dare. The Gypset, an adventurous group of artists, fashion designers, photographers, surfers, and bon vivants, began to emerge in the 2000&rsquo;s as a reaction to an overly commodified culture. My idea was to rearrange the hierarchy and put creativity at the top. Just having money didn&rsquo;t make you chic; real style came from inside with real experiences. So, the <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/the-way-we-are-ibiza-tradition-culture-editor-maya-boyd">Gypsetters,</a> quit their day jobs and sublet their apartments, and set out to build utopic versions of society in self-anointed capitals- Byron Bay, Australia, Topanga Canyon, USA, Lamu, Kenya, Todos Santos, Mexico, Deia, Mallorca, and of course, Ibiza. I remember first coming to Ibiza around that time, in the ashes of the package tour era, when the fashion crowd started to show up&mdash;Kate Moss, Pheobe Philo, and the photographers Mert Alas &amp; Marcus Piggott to name a few. They were attracted to the island&rsquo;s golden era of the 1960&rsquo;s but they added to it a new bohemian glamour. I met others who lived in teepees or elegantly restored fincas with backyard regenerative farms and a ex-model who&rsquo;d been meditating in a cave for months. There was no schedule to organize the day other than the sun and moon. Shoes and even clothes were tossed, and many began to turn their passions into work and live life on their own terms. All of this was happening at least a decade or two before digital nomads were parked in every cafe. &ldquo;<a href="https://www.assouline.com/products/psychedelic-now?srsltid=AfmBOopOj0SbxyoyxHV8E9c0q7eXzP8P5b1W8_QjcUYv_0jlM5oxvMW5">Psychedelic Now&rdquo;,</a> my new book, is the unofficial next volume of &ldquo;Gypset&rdquo;. Instead of actual travel, this time around its about mind travel; the inner journey. It&rsquo;s about the new psychedelic mindset unfolding across the cultural zeitgeist in fashion, art, design, architecture and lifestyle. Psychedelic means mind manifest from the Greek psyche (mind) and delos (manifest) The way I interpret the term in my book is an alternate state accessed in many ways including meditation, breathing, dancing, laughing, and simply looking someone in the eye and smiling. It&rsquo;s about what happens when connection and consciousness take hold en masse. But what does it look like? And why now? My criteria for inclusion in the book were artists and thinkers who had created an alternate, expanded reality that was masterful and original. The work had to be contemporary, mining the issues of our times, and not just a rehash of the 1960&rsquo;s (although I love a good tie-dye).

I picked artist Yayoi Kusama&rsquo;s bright polka-dotted fantasy worlds, Marni&rsquo;s Alice in Wonderland silhouettes, <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/valentino-according-to-alessandro-michele-the-resort-2026-collection-is-revealed">Alessandro Michele</a>, artist duo FriendsWithYou&rsquo;s ecstatic rainbows and candy-colored Kawaii creatures, Lil Yachty&rsquo;s vulnerable space rap, ASAP Rocky&rsquo;s boundary flipping fashion and many other visionaries, famous and less known, that are defining this moment. What united <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DLX6NjKxXHQ/">&ldquo;Psychedelic Now&rdquo;</a> across genres is a collective fantasy of hope that&rsquo;s an altered state all its own. Which also happens to perfectly describe Ibiza&rsquo;s style. To witness this sartorial spectacle up close one needs only to spend time in island hangouts such as Sunset Ashram, a late lunch at <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/people-of-ibiza/pierre-traversier">Los Enamorados</a>, an evening shopping spree at the closet sized boutique <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/like-living-inside-a-poem-annie-doble-s-guide-to-her-dalt-vila-neighbourhood">Annie&rsquo;s,</a> or a midnight dinner amongst the candle lit orchards of <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/people-of-ibiza/people-of-ibiza-mouji-longhi">La Paloma</a> in San Llorenz. The <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/ibiza-imagined-by-wai-music-atmosphere-and-the-divine-in-motion">Babel </a>night at Teatro Pereya works too. At a birthday party I attended one fall at a friend&rsquo;s finca outside Santa Gertrudis. I approached the bartender for a drink. He asked me how I was feeling. In the moment, it seemed like a normal enough question. Then he asked, how would I like to feel? From a wooden box of various little bottles containing herbal and adaptogen tinctures he proceeded to mix up my bubbly prescription. No bartender had ever diagnosed my mood before. It struck me as so uniquely Ibiza to effortlessly improve upon things that are accepted as the norm. As I sipped my elixir, my energy seemed to lift. It was the missing ingredient from every drink I had ever ordered. And it wasn&rsquo;t just the drinks. Next to me stood a man with long lashes and silver eyeshadow who was carrying a rotary telephone. He handed me the receiver, &ldquo;I think it&rsquo;s for you.&rdquo; A woman with thick red hair somehow looked chic in pink satin boxing shorts with a turtle-neck mesh shrug cropped just below her collar bone. The birthday girl, Vera, was a porcelain nude except for a long blond braid, bits of lace embroidery, and white feathers. It was like fashion week on a cooler, playful planet. A big, contagious good vibe. This must be why so many international trends ignite in Ibiza and then spread around the world. Back at the party atop the mountain by Es Vedra, I had perfected the Ibiza style, which meant I was channeling my inner self. A vintage orange Quinceanera tulle petticoat from Oaxaca, over an Isabel Marant asymmetrical bathing suit and a Missoni turban. I wore my hair curly and wild, styled by the wind. For makeup, I left the shimmery mineral traces of Mediterranean salt from my afternoon swim in Xarraca. On the dance floor, behind the lasers, the DJ GALLiVANTER, in his trademark Scottish kilt and a chain link vest, was spinning up a galactic dance track. A deep sensuality emanated from the crowd, like a big pulsing space jewel. It felt like pure love. It was the determined joy of people gathering in this resplendent ritual. It&rsquo;s as if the whole island, isolated by geography and its rocky fortress, like cliffs had energetically spun into some other delightful dimension. It was just like my last sentence in &ldquo;<a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DLICyZQMCP0/">Psychedelic Now</a>&rdquo;: &ldquo;A cynic might call this simply a new mythology, but if people believe it and move toward it than this hopeful fantasy could eventually become our collective reality. See you there?&rdquo;&nbsp;
