A year after opening its doors in Santa Eulalia, Olas Gallery marks its anniversary with a deepening commitment to the artists who make Ibiza what it is, and a programme that refuses to stand still.&nbsp;

Most new galleries spend their first year figuring out what they are. <a href="https://olasgallery.com/en?srsltid=AfmBOoq5Lob1PgebyYtXdiSuGeBEdYlCmCiBIpUK7hKlSMMJZcwfKfO-">Olas</a> spent it becoming one. The name, it turns out, was always a clue. Olas, waves, on a first reading seems simply to recall the gallery's connection to the island and the sea. But the choice runs deeper than that. Waves represent unceasing, infinite movement. They are always expanding, always reaching further than before. And so <a href="https://www.instagram.com/olasgalleryibiza">the gallery</a> defines itself as something alive, something in constant growth, not like a white cube, adaptable and changeable yes, but ultimately static. Olas is something else entirely.&nbsp;
<a href="https://www.instagram.com/sofiagomezfonzo/">Sofia Gomez Fonzo</a>, the gallery's founder, built a place that could grow into a community. A place to showcase t<a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/la-isla-bonita-an-invitation-to-inhabit-the-present">he local artists</a> and creatives who are quietly shaping Ibiza's art scene, whatever medium they choose to work in. Painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, everything is welcomed, everything has a place. Fluid, open, and very much in motion.&nbsp;
At the heart of <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/olas-gallery-ibiza-s-new-creative-tide">Olas Gallery</a> are two ideas that feel simple but are, in practice, quite rare. The first is a genuine openness to medium: no hierarchy between disciplines, no sense that one form of expression matters more than another. The second is accessibility: art and locally made objects at a wide range of price points, so that anyone who walks through the door can find something that feels like theirs. An independent gallery and creative platform, it has grown into a meeting point between contemporary art, community, cultural activation and curated commercial opportunity. Built by artists, for the island.&nbsp;

The first year of Olas Gallery proved more than a promising start. Through a combination of in-house programming, external visibility and curatorial expansion, Sofia opened the door to a remarkable number of artists and creatives from across the island. Nine exhibitions. More than fifteen events. More than forty represented artists. An Honorary Mention for Best Ibiza Art Space at the White Ibiza Reader's Choice Awards. A presence at <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/tedxibiza-2026-thinking-cultura">TEDxIbiza,</a> W Ibiza, the Summer Art Auction 2025 and NUDO Ibiza.

But the numbers, as ever, only tell part of the story. What matters more is what grew around them: a community that showed up, that kept coming back, that began to understand Olas as something to rely on.&nbsp;By the end of year one, the gallery had established itself as an active and trustworthy cultural presence on the island, with a growing relevance across art, hospitality and creative collaboration.&nbsp;
The 2026 programme is full and ambitious, with external projects taking on a new importance. Building on the momentum of its first year, the gallery is moving into new spaces, reaching new audiences and developing new formats for collaboration across the island. This year, the focus sharpens more around photography, a medium that has rarely found the dedicated space it deserves in Ibiza's galleries and museums and around the idea of expansion.
The upcoming exhibitions give a sense of what that looks like in practice. On the 21st of April,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.instagram.com/nedirving/">Ned Irving</a> opened Under the Surface, a selection of works photographed entirely in Ibiza, exploring the liminal space between reality and abstraction. Irving, who was born on the island, has spent his practice capturing the ephemeral play of light on and beneath water: transient geometries shaped by nature, time and chance, merging through multiple exposures into fluid compositions that feel closer to painting than photography. For Irving, the camera is not a tool of documentation but of transformation. His lens translates between the physical and the poetic, the momentary and the eternal.&nbsp;

On the 9th of May, Olas takes its audience on the road to the LOST Artist's studio. <a href="https://www.instagram.com/christopher.stone.sculptor/">Christopher Stone</a> has been making work on the island for decades, trained at Central Saint Martins and mentored by Barry Flanagan, his finca on the San Juan road has become something of a local landmark. Bronze sculptures, colourful podencos, curious figures emerging from the countryside. An Open Studio Day, with natural wines by Casa Lhasa and music by Looka Barbi, offers a rare chance to step properly into his world.
From the 29th of May through to the 4th of July,&nbsp;Sofia Gomez Fonzo and Rachel Weschke of <a href="https://www.instagram.com/vessel_rooftop_studio/">Vessel Studio</a> present Textures of Time, a collaborative exhibition in photography and clay, tracing the days and nights of Ibiza's landscape through analogue warmth, ochre earth and salt-white nights. The work is shaped by contingency, by the accidents that happen when control loosens and something beyond intention comes into view.&nbsp;

And in late June, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/elizabethroselangford/">Elizabeth Rose Langford</a> brings Horses to a private location in Dalt Vila, large-scale works made from pigments she grinds herself from the iron-rich soil of Ibiza, released through the gesture and energy of horses. Dynamic and alive by their very nature.&nbsp;

A year in, the gallery is exactly what Sofia set out to build and also something she couldn't have planned. What began as one woman's conviction that Ibiza's creative life deserved a proper home has quietly become something shared, tended to by everyone who walked through the door and felt, for the first time, that they were somewhere that understood them. That kind of belonging is hard to manufacture and impossible to fake. You either build a place people want to return to, or you don't. After a year, the answer is clear. The community that formed around it, the artists who found a place in it, the conversations it started: those things belong to the island now. Olas just gave them somewhere to happen.&nbsp;
