Cheerleaders, kiss cams and 300,000 crystals: 
Lío’s latest production finds fresh ways to entertain.

An acrobat slips into the crowd. Crystals stitched onto corsets catch the light before dissolving back into darkness. A cheerleader has somehow ended up at a guest’s table. Across the marina, Dalt Vila glows above the harbour, illuminated and improbably theatrical. Waiters drift between tables carrying oysters, cocktails and dishes called Wild Bass in High Heels. Someone orders another bottle. Someone else is already dancing.
In Ibiza, pleasure and culture have long moved in the same circles. So too has <a href="https://www.instagram.com/lioibizaofficial/?hl=en">Lío</a>, recognising the value of a little excess: mischievous, glamorous, knowingly decadent and, above all, gloriously playful.
Months before opening night, however, Halftime Show begins in Barcelona. A singer arrives from Venezuela. A master of ceremonies from New York. Dancers from Ukraine, Slovakia and the Netherlands. A Canadian acrobat. One by one, they are measured, pinned and adjusted into costumes that have spent months taking shape in workshops where crystals are still applied by hand. By opening night, more than 300,000 stones will have found their place across corsets, boots and bodysuits.
After sixteen years, Lío is evolving under artistic director Pol Chamorro, who joined the company in its first season as a performer and now leads its creative direction. Lío is no longer just a dinner show. What began as a pioneering concept has become something harder to categorise. Ibiza has changed and so has Lío’s audience. Yet the format has adapted without losing the unapologetic fun and a determination to get people out of their seats.
“The idea is that now you go to Lío and remember which show you saw,” Chamorro explains. “The audience already knows the formula. What people haven’t seen is what comes next.”
The title references one of contemporary culture’s most recognisable performance rituals. Stadium iconography collides with sequins, leather corsetry and hand-finished glamour. Songs associated with some of the world’s most famous halftime performances are dismantled and rebuilt through Lío’s own musical language. The references are knowingly playful. Cheerleaders, rugby players in slow motion and a tongue-in-cheek kiss cam appear throughout the evening. For all its athleticism and sex appeal, the production plays with humour at regular intervals, puncturing any temptation towards self-importance.

What began as a pioneering concept has become something harder to categorise. Yet the format retains its unapologetic fun and determination to get people out of their seats.

The cast are as charismatic as they are accomplished. For decades, artists, club kids, musicians, drag performers, hedonists and wanderers have arrived on the island carrying different versions of themselves. One of the evening’s most memorable sequences belongs to Matty, a non-binary performer who transitions effortlessly from rugby player to cheerleader as music, costume and lighting transform around them. The eye follows Matty almost instinctively. Here pleasure arrives through many channels.
Under Michelin-starred chef Andreu Genestra, gastronomy is central to the experience. Local ingredients are treated with precision but never at the expense of enjoyment. The menu shares the same sense of wit and theatricality as the show.
As the final acts conclude, very few people are where they started. Somewhere along the way, dinner gives way to club night. Lío Ibiza remains the flagship of a growing international vision that now extends to Mykonos. Yet its most compelling quality belongs to the island that produced it: the enduring pleasure of a room full of strangers discovering, however briefly, that they belong to the same night. Beneath the spectacle, the craftsmanship and the exuberance lies something simpler: the freedom to occupy space as you are.
