Estudio Laterna presents a striking exhibition challenging photography&rsquo;s relationship with impermanence.

<a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/eduardo-chillida-belzunce-film-at-estudio-laterna-director-gorka-merchan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Estudio Laterna</a> unveils Temporal Layers, an evocative exhibition that redefines photography&rsquo;s relationship with time, beauty and memory. Featuring the works of Miguel Soler-Roig, Houshyar Kashani, <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/l-officiel-ibiza-photographer-emile-durrer-gasse-opens-solo-exhibition-at-la-palo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Emile Durrer-Gasse</a>, Martina Moscariello and Aurea Floral Studio the exhibition brings together three photographers whose practices, though distinct, converge in a profound exploration of impermanence.
More than a mere collection of images, Temporal Layers disrupts conventional notions of chronology. Time is not linear in this space&mdash;it accumulates, erodes and transforms, appearing as fragments and echoes rather than as fixed points in the past. Photography, often associated with the act of freezing time, is instead presented as a paradox - a medium that both preserves and exposes time&rsquo;s slow unravelling. Accompanying the photographic works is a site-specific installation by Martina Moscariello, created in collaboration with Aurea Floral Studio, which extends the exhibition&rsquo;s dialogue between image, materiality and transformation.

Miguel Soler-Roig
Miguel Soler-Roig&rsquo;s photographic works exist at the fragile intersection of memory and constructed reality. His series La Ruina del Recuerdo (The Ruin of Memory) is an intimate excavation of his childhood home in Barcelona, where time has collapsed into layered histories. Trained at the Basel School of Design and the Rhode Island School of Design, Soler-Roig approaches photography with a conceptual rigour that merges narrative with aesthetic precision.&nbsp;
Exhibited worldwide, including at the RISD Museum and PhotoEspa&ntilde;a, Soler-Roig&rsquo;s photographs convey a dreamlike quality - where past and present blend into a single moment and where memory is always in flux. His work forces the viewer to confront the ways in which time reshapes both places and emotions, creating a haunting dialogue between nostalgia and loss.

Houshyar Kashani
Houshyar Kashani&rsquo;s black-and-white analogue photography exists in a liminal space, resisting the pull of the present. His images are not tied to any single moment but seem to float in a timeless void, imbued with a quiet, meditative quality.
Kashani&rsquo;s journey into photography was unconventional - first engaging with images as a collector before becoming a creator himself. Under the mentorship of Larry Shaw, son of the legendary Sam Shaw, Kashani&rsquo;s practice remains deeply intuitive. Since his international debut at Les Rencontres d&rsquo;Arles in 2001, his works have been exhibited widely, always carrying an unmistakable signature of patience and precision. His photographs act as a form of excavation - an attempt to capture what endures despite the slow erosion of time. Light and shadow play a pivotal role, reinforcing the tension between presence and absence, between permanence and impermanence.&nbsp;

Emile Durrer-Gasse
Born and raised in <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/ibiza/soho-house-ibiza-cas-gasi-soho-farmhouse-to-open-in-ibiza-in-spring-2025" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ibiza</a>, Emile Durrer-Gasse&rsquo;s photographic sensibility is shaped by the island&rsquo;s ephemeral beauty. His images explore the intersections of place, memory and impermanence. He works exclusively with analogue film, embracing its unpredictability - allowing grain, light leaks and imperfections to dictate the final composition. His images do not strive for clarity or permanence &ndash; rather they celebrate the fleeting nature of experience.
By embracing photography&rsquo;s inherent paradox - its ability to preserve what is already slipping away - Durrer-Gasse&rsquo;s works move beyond mere nostalgia. Instead, they invite viewers into an aesthetic and philosophical contemplation of transience itself.

Martina Moscariello and Aurea Floral Studio
The dialogue between photography and materiality is further explored through Martina Moscariello&rsquo;s installation, created in collaboration with Aurea Floral Studio. Moscariello&rsquo;s artistic practice has long centred on transformation&mdash;where discarded elements and organic textures find new life through reinvention.
Her installation for Temporal Layers weaves together natural elements in a way that highlights their gradual decomposition - mirroring the central themes of time, erosion and renewal. As the exhibition progresses, the installation itself will change, underscoring the inevitability of transformation.

Temporal Layers - An Invitation to See Differently
The concept of Temporal Layers is rooted in the idea that beauty is not a static quality but a transient event - something that happens between perception and disappearance. Inspired in part by Jean Grondin&rsquo;s La Belleza de la Metaf&iacute;sica, the exhibition challenges the notion that photography exists to freeze time. Instead, it presents images as unstable surfaces - where time accumulates, corrodes and reshapes itself. Rather than reinforcing photography as a tool of preservation, Temporal Layers reimagines it as an act of transformation - where meaning is not fixed, but constantly made and remade.
