On a mirrored runway and under crystal chandeliers, the British designer presented a world where dressing becomes a performance and even a form of social power.

Richard Quinn has never sought to make fashion easygoing. In his world, a dress doesn't necessarily have to be practical, and a woman doesn't need to project an effortless beauty. For Spring/Summer 2027, Quinn takes this concept to the extreme: a mirrored space, crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, and a series of evening gowns appearing one after another, as if London Fashion Week had been transformed into an endless ball.
Behind the glamour lies a rather classic idea: the ritual of dressing. In this collection, Quinn isn't just talking about clothes, but recreating the entire process of a woman preparing to enter a formal setting. Mirrors, lights, long dresses, opera gloves, and high heels don't exist in isolation; they form a sequence of gestures, from the moment in front of the mirror to the moment appearing before the crowd. The collection focuses on allure, reflection, and the ritual of dressing, moving from the private space of the dressing room to the drama of the ballroom.

While many contemporary designers are seeking to dismantle the rules of formal attire, Quinn does the opposite. He revives them, but exaggerates them to an almost surreal degree. Dresses feature low waistlines, fitted bodices, and wide, bell-shaped skirts made of layers of fabric; velvet, satin, feathers, sequins, and lace appear in abundance. The garment surfaces are treated like jewellery, with embellishments, bows, fabric roses, and brooches transforming the body into a moving decorative object.
It's noteworthy that Quinn doesn't view ostentation as a fault to be restrained. At a time when understated elegance is increasingly becoming a familiar aesthetic standard, Richard Quinn stands on the opposite side. Here, elegance must be visible. It must capture the light, dominate the space, and force the wearer to enter the room with a form larger than their own body.

The collection thus evokes the evening wear of previous decades, when dressing for an evening was not simply about choosing a beautiful outfit, but also about preparing for a social role. An evening gown used to be accompanied by rules about posture, movement, how to enter a room, and how to be perceived by others. Quinn doesn't hide this performative aspect; on the contrary, he makes it the centrepiece of the collection.
But amidst all the classicism, there were quintessential Quinn twists. Long gloves accompanied the elaborate gowns, while black rubber appeared as a second skin, creating a contrast between elegance and a touch of danger. Satin blue, gold, pastel pink, white, and black alternated shades in the show, while floral motifs continued to be a familiar hallmark of the designer's language.

The final moment belonged to Helena Christensen. The supermodel appeared in an evening gown and closed the runway under a canopy of crystal lights, creating an almost surreal image amidst modern London.
Perhaps that's what Richard Quinn wanted to preserve in fashion: the ability to dress beyond what's necessary. At a time when practicality is often seen as a sign of progress, Quinn reminds us that fashion once had another function: to create an occasion for people to be different from the ordinary. And sometimes, a dress doesn't need to solve any problems at all. It just needs to make the wearer walk into a room as if that room were made specifically for them.
