The fashion world mourns the passing of one of its truest originals

Vivienne Westwood was a world-renowned fashion designer who has been creating unique and stylish clothing for over 40 years. She was known for her eccentric and often outrageous designs, which often incorporate historical and political elements. Born in 1941, Vivienne Westwood grew up in the town of Derbyshire in the United Kingdom. She studied at the Royal College of Art in London, where she met her future husband and business partner, Malcolm McLaren. The avant-garde pair opened a clothing store named SEX on London&rsquo;s Kings Road in 1974, rapidly establishing a reputation for daring, innovative and often shocking design. In 1976, 430 King's Road was refitted and renamed Seditionaries: Clothes for Heroes. The collection remained in the same risqu&eacute; territory as the clothes sold in SEX, featuring bondage trousers and plenty of PVC.

Westwood is still most famous for her punk aesthetic, honed during her years with McLaren. The punk movement was a reaction against the conservative fashions of the time and <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/ibiza-girls-steal-the-show-at-the-british-fashion-awards" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Westwood&rsquo;</a>s designs were some of the most radical and controversial. Her oft-imitated use of shocking imagery and slogans was radical and her designs were often considered too extreme for the mainstream fashion industry. However, over the years Westwood&rsquo;s designs became more mainstream and she will be remembered as one of the most influential <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/vivienne-westwood-andreas-kronthaler-fashion-show-spring-summer-2023-collection-photo-look" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fashion designers </a>the world has ever seen.

Westwood passed away peacefully in her sleep last night. Her family released the following statement:
Vivienne Westwood died today, peacefully and surrounded by her family, in Clapham, South London.Vivienne continued to do the things she loved, up until the last moment, designing, working on her art, writing her book, and changing the world for the better. She led an amazing life. Her innovation and impact over the last 60 years has been immense and will continue into the future. Vivienne considered herself a Taoist. She wrote, &ldquo;Tao spiritual system. There was never more need for the Tao today. Tao gives you a feeling that you belong to the cosmos and gives purpose to your life; it gives you such a sense of identity and strength to know you&rsquo;re living the life you can live and therefore ought to be living: make full use of your character and full use of your life on earth.&rdquo; The world needs people like Vivienne to make a change for the better.
