Since he met British actress and model <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/jane-birkin-leaves-us-at-the-age-of-76" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jane Birkin</a> on the set of the film Slogan, directed by Pierre Grimblat in 1968, they have been one of the most memorable couples of the late <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/look-outfit-beach-fashion-inspired-by-icons-60s-70s-80s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">'60s</a>. Their passionate love, besides dominating the gossip columns of those years, is recounted in the songs, films, and photographs that portray the cheeky duo in their <a href="https://www.cnn.com/style/article/jane-birkin-serge-gainsbourg/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">13-year romance</a>. Parents to actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, the happy couple spent many summers on the <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/culture/3-new-ephemeral-boutiques-in-saint-tropez-bdc-dior-jacquemus-indie-beach" target="_blank" rel="noopener">French Riviera</a> with their kids (Birkin is also mother to singer Lou Doillon and photographer Kate Barry) and fully embodied the epitome of the '70s bohemia with their great sense of style. Gainsbourg and Birkin became creative partners  as well as romantic partners.

Their first hit song together was "Je t'aime... moi non plus," a song that Gainsbourg originally recorded with Brigitte Bardot. The version with Birkin rose to the top of the UK charts.

Gainsbourg was 18 years Birkin's senior, and she assumed a Lolita-like character in one of their songs together.
