In the 1970s, she established herself with an intellectual, self-deprecating, uncertain and shy acting style. She's the moral compass in the ruthless and corrupt world depicted by Francis Ford Coppola in "The Godfather" trilogy and the extravagant Annie Hall in "Annie Hall," where Keaton plays a character who influences the fashion of an era.

Born in Los Angeles in 1946, after high school she enrolled in an acting class, but soon dropped out to move to New York, determined to pursue a career in the theatre. In the Big Apple, she chose her mother's surname to distinguish herself from another Diane Hall, who was already a member of the actors' union. She made her Broadway debut in 1968 with the musical "Hair." The following year, she received a Tony Award nomination for "Play It Again, Sam," written and directed by Woody Allen, with whom she formed an artistic and romantic bond. Her breakthrough on the big screen came with "Lovers and Other Strangers," but her success with the public exploded in 1972 when Francis Ford Coppola cast her as Kay Adams in "The Godfather." The film won the Oscar for Best Picture in 1973, and Keaton reprised the role in the two sequels in 1974 and 1990.

At the same time, she continued to collaborate with Woody Allen on films such as &ldquo;Play It Again, Sam&rdquo; (1972), &ldquo;Sleeper&rdquo; (1973) and &ldquo;Love and Death&rdquo; (1975). In 1977, the role that would define her career arrived. With the extravagant Annie Hall in &ldquo;Annie Hall&rdquo;, she brought her personal style to the screen, made up of men's waistcoats, ties and tailored trousers. On the Academy Award stage, she was among the first to wear a then unknown overseas designer: Giorgio Armani.

She took on intense roles in films such as &ldquo;Looking for Mr. Goodbar,&rdquo; &ldquo;Reds&rdquo; &ndash; alongside her partner at the time, Warren Beatty, for whom she left Woody Allen in 1978 - &ldquo;Shoot the Moon&rdquo; and &ldquo;The Nanny.&rdquo; With Nancy Meyers she shot &ldquo;Baby Boom&rdquo; (1987) and the two comedies &ldquo;Father of the Bride&rdquo; (1991) and &ldquo;Father of the Bride: Part II&rdquo; (1995), up to &ldquo;Anything's Gotta Give&rdquo; (2003), which earned her another Oscar nomination.

In 1996, she shared the stage with Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler in &ldquo;The First Wives Club,&rdquo; which quickly became a cult classic. In the 2000s, she appeared in the &ldquo;Book Club&rdquo; film series, as the charming and sweet playwright won over by Jack Nicholson in the comedy &ldquo;Anything's Gotta Give&rdquo; (2003), a performance that earned her a fourth Oscar nomination. She also had a rare television appearance in Paolo Sorrentino 's HBO miniseries &ldquo;The Young Pope.&rdquo; She is also a director of documentaries and films, including &ldquo;Heaven&rdquo; (1987) and &ldquo;Hanging Up&rdquo; (2000).
