Peter Do, new creative director of Helmut Lang, presents his first co-ed men&#39;s and women&#39;s spring summer 2023-24 collection. A celebration of the automobile, a metaphor for escaping reality.

Expectations were high and it was certainly the most anticipated event of <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/nyfw-schedule-september-2023-spring-2024" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Fashion Week</a>. Let's talk about Peter Do 's debut as creative director of Helmut Lang with the women's and men's <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/celebrities-spotted-at-nyfw-spring-summer-2024" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spring summer 2024</a> collection.
Baptized with the title "Burn to Go ", the parade is a celebration of the United States of America through the metaphorical image of the automobile.
&ldquo;Peter's choice to build his Helmut Lang show on the image of the automobile is very appropriate,&rdquo; writes poet Ocean Vuong in the show's press release, &ldquo; In the hands of queer individuals, the car is not just the vehicle of the nuclear family's realisation of the American dream, for which it has proliferated, is not only the symbol of linear industrial progress, but also, for us, a place to hide from the world and be more than we have been allowed to to be inside it. The car is where we slipped away, often at night, with the vehicle itself perhaps "borrowed" from our parents, to get to destinations that are not places at all, but the edges of the roads, the limbo under the bridge, a field of stars gone bad at a dirt crossroads, and we would turn off the engine to fuck or cry or talk to each other without whispering, to finally scream the muffled joy and pain as the stars winked at us through the windscreen".

And on the Helmut Lang catwalk, Peter Do translates everything with <a href="https://www.lofficielibiza.com/fashion/rains-show-spring-summer-2024-photos-images-look" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outerwear</a> and tailored suits with tapes that recall seat belts, looks that slim the male and female figure, very light shirts and dresses characterised by a simplified allure. There is no shortage of references to the Lang heritage such as the silhouettes and tailored cuts of the Nineties, the colour palettes with fuchsia and yellow accents that structure the colour block looks, the telling t-shirts, the attention to denim and minimalist graphic prints.
Peter Do's debut was a heralded highlight of New York Fashion Week. A good start that met every expectation.
