2026 is proving to be a "crazy" year for the Directioners community, as members of One Direction are releasing new albums one after another within the first few months of the year. Following Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik, on March 6th, Harry Styles officially released his new studio album titled Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally.

Since the Love On Tour concluded in 2023, the online community has mostly seen him wandering through Europe in his jogging attire. But it turns out that period wasn't just for sightseeing; he was still quietly working on music. After listening to the entire album, it's clear that the songs were written sporadically over several years. Overall, while offering a wide range of emotions, this very structure sometimes feels disjointed. The order of the songs doesn't really complement each other; the layers of arpeggio and thick bass appear consecutively, forcing the listener to move from one song to another before fully absorbing the previous one.

Initially, everyone thought Harry Styles would lead his fans straight onto the dance floor.

After a period of frequent public appearances and attention-grabbing outfits from Dior and Chanel, Harry Styles is finally opening a new chapter in his career. This album is expected to be full of explosive melodies, evoking the atmosphere of 70s and 80s disco dance floors. Harry has long been seen as an artist who breaks familiar masculine stereotypes, so many are curious whether he will recreate the spirit of disco icons like Boney M or the Bee Gees with his distinctive contemporary musical language.
However, the disco "essence" in this album seems to have passed the filter of visual culture: the sound is more refined, restrained, and controlled. In other words, he doesn't bring the boisterousness of a crowded dance floor, but rather the atmosphere of after-party events following fashion shows. The glamour of the disco era is present in a more humble way, to suit an elegant space, a place where people can listen to music, chat, and observe. Therefore, the album feels lively but almost without any dramatic climax. Harry doesn't place the listener in the middle of a crowd on the dance floor; he keeps them in a corner of the room so they can appreciate the entire scene before them.
Ready, Steady, Go perfectly captures the atmosphere of a nightclub: you walk through the door, greet familiar faces, shout a few energetic lines, and then choose a drink that looks most to your liking. Perhaps Harry would choose an Aperol Spritz to evoke memories of his time in Italy, before the chorus hits: &ldquo;pronti, quasi, vai.&rdquo;

Following the success of "Apeture," with its music video and performance at the 2026 BRIT Awards, Harry Styles released the official music video for "American Girls ." The setting resembles a film set: Harry is seen striking poses in dangerous scenes, while the actual danger is handled by a stunt double. This imagery serves as a subtle metaphor for faith and daring in the face of life's major turning points. The interwoven scenes also evoke familiar imagery from One Direction's "Kiss You" music video.
The Waiting Game blends synth-pop and uplifting electronic music with a contemplative feel amidst the dance floor atmosphere. With Pop, the self-deprecating humour about pop stardom continues as Harry Styles both enjoys and subtly mocks his own image. However, the song feels somewhat out of place when compared to the previous track.

Identity crisis in your 30s

The album is like a diary filled with Harry's self-reflections on life, love, and desires. He retains the flexible rhyming style seen in As It Was, and the familiar contemplative tone from Fine Line, but this time he poses a bigger question: his own transformation.
In Season 2 of Weight Loss, Harry repeatedly asks direct questions about love and the fear of disappointing others. The song alludes to the journey of becoming a better version of oneself, comparing that process to how actors transform after a breakout role.
The album continues to push the experimental spirit with "Are You Listening Yet?" directly interpreting inner feelings through a blend of pop-rock and techno. Meanwhile, "Taste Back" is like a pause, allowing the artist to temporarily step away from the spotlight and offer a slow, deliberate answer: "You just need a little love."

But behind the club lights are the summer nights spent wandering under the city's yellow lights, after friends have parted ways following the party. At that time, the characters in the songs return to their own lingering sadness. Coming Up Roses accurately portrays that feeling, realising that the value of a relationship lies not in how long it lasts, but in the lessons it teaches. In a conversation with Zane Lowe, Harry shared: "We often see a relationship as successful when it lasts forever, while that perspective sometimes obscures the beauty of relationships that exist to help us understand ourselves, even if sometimes they are full of bitter truths."
Harry Styles seems to understand how to energise an audience when he's on stage. It's easy to see his intention to draw the audience along to the backing vocal "DJs don't dance more" during live performances. The songs are mostly produced with abundant energy, true to the spirit of the album's title. Life in Berlin has also shifted Harry's musical taste towards electronic music. He once spoke of a moment when he was completely immersed in this genre, feeling so free that he was moved. That's precisely the emotional experience he wants to convey to his fans.

Paint By Numbers was originally intended as the album's opening track, as the lyrics evoke images of children playing with water guns, a memory Harry Styles had of his time with One Direction &ndash; a time when he realised he was facing millions of prejudices. The lyrics carry a sense of anguish: "My whole life I had to learn to draw by numbers, only to see the colours smudge," as an acknowledgement that he had poured his heart and soul into something that didn't yield the expected results.
The album concludes with Carla's Song, a love ballad that could be seen as a more mature version of Adore You. The song seems to answer many of the questions Harry posed throughout the album, particularly why he continues to pursue music.

Despite all the self-reflection, for those who have followed Harry Styles for a long time, witnessing an artist rediscovering his own identity still comes as a surprise. Even without revealing too much about his personal life, the album still raises enough questions for listeners to "decipher" one by one.
The album Kiss All the Time. Disco, occasionally will be performed on stage in a series of 67 shows across major cities worldwide. And what's most intriguing is how Harry Styles will transform an album with multiple layers of emotion and concept into a large-scale, entertaining performance of contemporary pop music.
