In the fashion world, there are some brands you need to look at the right people to see them, not just the ads. For years, a name has quietly lingered on the coolest people in the world, from red carpets to rock stages, from rappers to Hollywood studios. A little rock &#39;n&#39; roll, a little luxury, a little mystery: that&#39;s Chrome Hearts.

My path crossed with Chrome Hearts in 2007 at their shop-in-shop in Selfridges, London. I was 17, hadn't heard of the brand yet, but the gothic and cool world captivated me the moment I walked in. It was my first year studying fashion in London and I bought a pair of large spike earrings that appealed to my then-preferred silver accessory taste, replacing my current fascination with gold. I still have the earrings; my interest in the brand grew, I started collecting their products, and most recently, I became friends with the general manager of their store in Los Angeles. I even asked for a short interview and a factory tour for you, but the brand has preferred not to appear in the press much for years, aiming to maintain its mysterious aura. While the brand has continued with its "if you know, you know" mentality for many years, in the last few years it has also started appearing on red carpets and events with the most famous names, from the Met Gala to film premieres. In this article, I've taken a closer look at my "love brand," Chrome Hearts, a favourite of rappers and millionaires.
Founded in 1988 by Richard Stark in his Los Angeles garage, Chrome Hearts initially started as a brand producing high-quality leather motorcycle apparel. Stark was joined at the beginning of this journey by Leonard Kamhout and John Bowman. Initially creating rock-style leather clothing and silver jewellery for their friends and acquaintances, the trio gradually expanded their reach through their connections and by designing costumes for films and music, achieving fame with Cher being one of the first to wear the brand. In fact, in 1992, Stark, who was awarded the CFDA's Best Accessory Designer of the Year award, initially thought it was a joke and Cher attended the ceremony to accept the award. Following this award, the brand became a coveted item. In 1994, he bought out his partners' shares and brought his wife, Laurie Lynn, into the management of the brand, transforming it into a full-fledged family business.

In an interview with a magazine, Stark stated that he wanted to make this brand a 150-year-old one, and that this could only happen if it remained a family business.
The couple has three children, the eldest being Jesse Jo Stark, who is interested in rock music and is dating the famous rock musician Yungblud. Their younger twins, Kristian and Frankie Belle, are also actively involved with the brand. Every member of the family is cool and stylish. It's as if God created this family for this business. In a podcast I listened to, Jesse Jo Stark mentioned that her family has been close to celebrities since childhood. Even legendary figures like Karl Lagerfeld preferred Chrome Hearts accessories; in fact, the brand became an obsession for him, he would own every new product that came out. One day, someone told Stark, "You are the only real brand." So how did the brand's products become such desirable objects worldwide, and why is it a status symbol?
Despite not employing traditional advertising and marketing strategies, the brand is one of the most famous in the world. One of the reasons for this position is its limited production. Chrome Hearts stores are not located in the most ubiquitous locations in the world, and especially after Covid, you can only enter the stores by appointment. I recently tried to go to a store in Honolulu without an appointment and was turned away at the door. Even inside the stores, there are indeed limited quantities of products. Not all products are displayed; if you specify what you are looking for, they can bring it out depending on stock availability, but usually, they are out of stock. Taking photos in the stores is prohibited.
