Annie Hall. The best romantic comedy of all time and probably the best film by the prolific and legendary Woody Allen, who wrote and directed this bittersweet love story, managing to portray each stage of a relationship, from the initial infatuation to the reunions that occur long after the breakup. He did so with humour, great inventiveness in playing with various cinematic conventions, and above all, thanks to the magnetic presence of Diane Keaton, an actress who demonstrated her comedic talent and immediately became a fashion icon with a style still imitated today. &ldquo;It was his first love story, albeit a bitter one. The message was clear: love fades. Woody took a risk and let the audience feel the sadness of saying goodbye in a funny film,&rdquo; as the actress wrote in her memoir, Now and Forever. Moonstruck. The legendary singer Cher was fully immersed in her acting career in 1987: she had just starred in The Witches of Eastwick and was a couple of years away from making Mermaid Mom. Here, as Loretta, Cher is an Italian-American engaged to a man who travels to Italy to visit his ailing mother. But before leaving, he asks his fianc&eacute;e to invite his estranged brother to the wedding. Alongside a young Nicolas Cage, they form a fiery duo when the influence of the moon sparks a powerful attraction between them. A story about unbridled desire, but also about family ties, expectations, and the weight of routine. The film can be seen today on MUBI.

A place called Notting Hill . If there's one beautiful thing about cinema, it's the power to bring fantasies to life. And who hasn't fantasised about dating a Hollywood star? That's something that hadn't crossed the mind of the salesman in a travel bookstore in the London neighbourhood, until a captivating woman casually walked into his shop. Besides playing with fantasy, the film also manages to create a gallery of endearing supporting characters. Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts exude great chemistry in a simple love story, with effective British humour and a clever script penned by the master of the craft, Richard Curtis, who gave us the unforgettable line: "I'm just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her."

Someone's Gotta Give . In 2003, director and screenwriter Nancy Meyers gave us one of the best romantic comedies ever made. It's an unusual love story between two older people in a genre that typically features younger protagonists. Here, Diane Keaton plays a divorced playwright whose daughter suddenly shows up with an older man, played by Jack Nicholson, who isn't afraid to flaunt his womanising ways. Meanwhile, she meets a charming doctor, none other than Keanu Reeves, who is considerably younger than her. But life's twists and turns force them to live together, gradually rediscovering each other. Meyers films her leads without hiding or concealing wrinkles, imbuing her characters with both the wisdom of maturity and the neuroses and anxieties that never truly disappear. With the pure classicism of screwball comedy, it manages to be as funny as it is moving and romantic, thanks in large part to these two phenomenal actors.

Hitman . The prolific Richard Linklater teamed up once again with Glen Powell (they had previously worked together on Everybody Wants Some!!), with whom he also co-wrote the screenplay. Powell had previously starred in another romantic comedy, Anybody But You, where he showcased his seductive charm, but Hitman is much more than that. On one hand, the story of an undercover cop who impersonates different characters allows Powell to demonstrate his remarkable ability to act in a wide range of roles. On the other, with the appearance of a desperate woman with whom he bends the rules a bit, he and Adria Arjona form an overwhelming, fiery couple. Rationality is set aside when emotion takes over.
